Regional Food System Collaboration

“We live in a rural, relatively isolated place. Our growing season isn't long. But what is produced out there at this farm is incredible. I think it's just a fundamental element to a healthy community.”

- Rugged Roots Farm Volunteer (2023)

Workforce Development

We offer job training programs on our farm in order to provide technical skills, build awareness, and enhance knowledge related to ecological farming.

“I feel like my work helped to make a difference, which is a great feeling. I see food and food systems differently now, understand them more deeply, and have more appreciation for them.”

- High School Intern, Age 17 (2024)

Regenerative Farming Education

We use every opportunity to educate visitors on the farm, whether it is with our volunteers, program participants, and/or students from the Ecological Farming Certificate at Feather River College, Plumas Charter School and Plumas Unified School District.

“Yes, I will continue to grow food in my garden. This program inspired me to grow more food every year instead of every few years.”

– Breanna, Age 14 (Upward Bound participant)

Food Access & Food Security

We offer free and reduced credit to the farm to low-income residents in combination with free food education opportunities. We partner with orgs to distribute farm bucks and information about our services to seniors, adults with disabilities, and students. We make regular donations to food pantries and wellness centers. We have fresh produce available for our community to purchase June-October on the farm, at our local co-op, and at the Quincy Farmers Market. During emergencies, we act as a emergency food distribution center for people evacuating their homes.

“The [Affordable Produce Program] really encouraged me to eat more fruits and vegetables. This program is a blessing to my family, our health, and our community.”

- Affordable Produce Program Participant (2023)
